Personal Training for Skinny Men

Attention skinny guys: we can help!

My name is Connor, and I own Spark Fitness in North Hollywood, California where we specialize in strength training delivered by world class personal training…

I used to be very skinny.

And I hated it.

I messed around and made every mistake possible… until I eventually got things figured out and went on to gain 100lbs of useful, muscular body weight (all naturally). I went from 150 to 250 and became an entirely new stereotype “a meathead”. And let me tell you… it’s way better than being skinny.

Anyway…

Here is how we can help you become not skinny anymore.

  1. Strength train.
    • If you don’t want to be skinny anymore you have to strength train. What is strength training you ask? Well I wrote this article about that. Read it. For the purposes of this article, strength training is lifting weight that is heavy (relative to you). Training that is lifting progressively heavier weights overtime. The best way to do that is with compound movements – namely the back squat, deadlift, press, bench press, power clean, chin ups, and dips. Do these movements as often as possible, and add a little weight. We can help you choose the days, sets, rest, weights, program, tracking results, and technique of each movement.
  2. Get really strong.
    • We’re starting to get to the meat and potatoes of the issue. You can only get bigger if you get stronger. And you can only be as big as you are strong. I’m sorry, I wish there was another way to not be skinny, but there’s not. If you deadlift 100lbs we need to get you to 400lbs. If you deadlift 300lbs we need to get you to 500lbs+. You know what happens when that happens? Every single part of you gets bigger and stronger. It changes the entire organism. If I had a dollar for every skinny guy that thought he was strong and that proved he would always be skinny, I’d have some more dollars. If you get really strong… you won’t be skinny anymore.
  3. Eat really big.
    • Here are the actual meat and potatoes of the issue. You don’t eat enough! You know something all skinny guys have in common? They ALL say they eat enough. Are you seeing a pattern? Everyone understands losing weight is uncomfortable. People that are losing weight expect to be hungry. But when gaining weight, people don’t understand how uncomfortable it is to eat an entire meal when you were already completely full before the meal started…. And then do that over and over again. Don’t worry – it’s not forever, just until you put on some appreciable size. If you are eating 2,000 calories a day, you need to eat 4,000. If you are eating 4,000 already, then you need to eat 8,000. If you are eating 50,000 then you need to eat 100,000 (obviously impossible). The point is, whatever you are eating if you can’t gain weight isn’t enough… unfortunately that’s all there is to it.
  4. Stay consistent.
    • This is the hardest part. Anyone can do what they need to for a few weeks, or even a few months. But the reality is the process of going from “skinny” to “buff” or “muscular” or whatever you want to be, is a multi-year process. That process works every single time without fail – it’s just people don’t work it long enough. We help keep our clients accountable and on track and we don’t let them quit.
  5. Stay injury free.
    • This ties into being consistent. Often times people are on track and they make a vital mistake – bad form, poor weight selection, poor program design, no spotter, etc and they end up hurt and that derails their progress. If you’ve had this happen you know it is devastating. We have almost zero injuries at our gym so we can help make sure you make the best decisions possible which will prevent you from getting injured and ultimately on track to reach your goals.

If you’re skinny and sick of it, come to the best strength training and personal training gym in Los Angeles. We’re located in the San Fernando Valley – specifically in North Hollywood.
